Anat Peri: The Practice of Becoming Your Own Safe Place
In my conversation with Anat Peri, we explored the profound connection between emotional healing, nervous system regulation, and inner child work. As the founder of Training Camp for the Soul, Anat shared how her own journey led her to recognize that many of us spend our lives operating in survival mode without even realizing it. She explained that while we often believe we are simply "busy" or "productive," our nervous systems can become conditioned to constant stress, hypervigilance, and over-functioning. Through her work, Anat helps people reconnect with themselves, regulate their nervous systems, and create lives rooted in safety, self-awareness, and emotional freedom.
One of the most eye-opening parts of our conversation centered around emotions and the ways we learn to suppress them. Anat explained that many people were never taught how to feel their emotions, only how to avoid, analyze, or dismiss them. She introduced a powerful perspective that emotions are not problems to solve but experiences to move through. Instead of asking, "Why do I feel this way?" she encourages people to become curious about the sensations in their bodies. By noticing tightness, warmth, heaviness, or other physical sensations without judgment, we begin working with our nervous system rather than against it. This simple shift creates safety, allowing emotions to be processed instead of stored away until they eventually surface through anxiety, overwhelm, conflict, or burnout.
Perhaps the most impactful takeaway was Anat’s reminder that healing is not about perfection—it is about practice. Through relatable stories, practical tools, and powerful metaphors like learning to surf the waves of emotion rather than fighting them, she demonstrated how emotional regulation can transform every area of life. Whether in relationships, parenting, leadership, or personal growth, the goal is not to eliminate difficult emotions but to learn how to acknowledge, express, and move through them with compassion. Her message was both hopeful and empowering: when we stop silencing our inner child, create safety within ourselves, and allow our emotions to be felt, we move from merely surviving to truly living with peace, possibility, and authenticity.
